English For Specific Purpose - Task 10

I've completed all of my tasks for English Specific Purpose subject . I've learnt so many things while I was doing these tasks. I've learnt to know more about english. In my previous english class before I started this semester, I thought that I've mastered my english perfectly well, but after I've taken this subject, I realised that there are so many things in english I need to know yet I've tried my best to learn and improve my english at the same time. There was no difficulty I had while I was doing these tasks even how hard they were. I believe that if we keep ourselves positive all the time, things will always be easier for us. One thing that I can tell you guys is that language is all about practice. I've seen so many people that can write but can't speak english very well. They have difficulties in speaking because they don't practice. So we must have the guts to speak it with friends, family or anyone in public. Just treat this language as your first language, you'll be shocked after few months later, you won't be having problems in speaking this language anymore. Trust me. I would like to thank my dad for giving me few tips while I was trying my best to master my english language. Not forgetting my friends and my lecturer Miss Freda for giving us the best lessons since the first day in this semester. Thank you to all of you guys.

English For Specific Purpose - Task 9

I'll be showing the direction to Pulau Tiga, Sabah and some information for the tourists.

Make your way to the district of Kuala Penyu and hop on a boat to Pulau Tiga! The island’s claim to fame is none other than being the first ever ‘secret’ location for the hit reality series, ‘Survivor’. Hence, many refer to Pulau Tiga as Survivor Island. Located just 10km off shore on the West Coast of Sabah, you can enjoy a day trip to the island but many recommend spending at least a night or two.

The island has two resorts, Pulau Tiga Resort and Borneo Survivor Resort (see contact details). There’s plenty to see and do here: spend the sunny days swimming or snorkeling in its surrounding clear waters or go kayaking. Divers can explore its underwater treasures (diving courses are available).

Pulau Tiga is also famous for its therapeutic natural volcanic mud. Looking for some wildlife? Say hello the island’s famous residents: snakes! Facilities on the island include a restaurant and camping site.

Getting There

Kuala Penyu is 120km from Kota Kinabalu city. Take a bus from the Segama overhead bridge (next to the Post Office) and a one way-trip will cost you approximately RM18.00. A taxi ride from the taxi stand next to the Merdeka Field should cost around RM180.00 (up to groups of four) per way.

Kindly note that boat transfers must be arranged through tour packages. Contact your travel agent for more information.

English For Specific Purpose - Task 7

The issues of racism, violence & corruption had existed long time ago. We know that this bad influence shouldn't be in our country. As what I said in my task 6, We live peacefully and in unity as well. Why do we need to bother ourselves to make these issues happen in a peaceful country. Ofcourse these issues will affect the country. If the issues are getting wider, this country will no longer be a peaceful country. Our kids will be influenced by these bad issues and everyone will keep on provoking here and there. To make it happen less we should make one event that shows what is violence and racism and what will happen if these bad influences are getting spread into our community. Everyone should also make a song or maybe a movie that has a moral values in it so that it could be published into the media and everyone will get the idea how bad are the influences to us. The elders should also guide the youth so they will know what's right and wrong for them. We should always think before doing something no matter what it is.

English For Specific Purpose - Task 6

In Task 6, I'll be giving out my opinions about 1 Malaysia and some examples of it. Do you think that we have been living in unity as 1 Malaysia? The answer is yes, we have been living peacefully and in unity as 1 Malaysia, and the truth is that the people here in Sabah & Sarawak had already started practicing it before they actually invented the concept of 1 Malaysia. Some of the other states are also practicing the same concept. Basically we all have been practicing it ,but ofcourse there are some spoilers in one country that make some of our people think that we ain't living in unity yet. These spoilers are actually fanatics. We should make them less in amount by showing the great examples to everyone of us who're living in Malaysia. I believe by doing this, it will be a good influence to be followed by others.

English For Specific Purpose - Task 5

In Task 5, I'll be sharing to you some of my goals that I want to achieve and how am I going to achieve them. I believe that everyone has their own goals in life. I usually set my goals in my mind and write it down in my wishlist. I believe that if we keep on thinking about it and act at the same time, we will achieve them goals more faster. We're represented by our thoughts. Some of us are complaining that the same problems appear in our life everyday. This is all because of our attitude. Our attitude decides everything. If we keep on being negative and say ''I can't do this, I can't do that'', Do you think we will achieve our goals faster? Ofcourse we couldn't achieve our goals if we keep on being negative. Do you know why? It's because you wished it at the first place. ''I can't do this,I can't do that''. That was what you wished for. As God says, ''Your wish is my command''. Some of us don't realise that our attitude actually decides how fast we will achieve our goals. I am grateful with what I have now. Since I started these practices, I've gotten what I always wanted and I thank God for everything.

English For Specific Purpose - Task 4

Few weeks ago we've just watched a movie entitled ''The Persuit of Happiness'' in our english class. It was a great moment that I tried to analyze every scene in the movie. I would say it's a great movie. It's a movie about a salesman named Chris. He has a wife and one kid living with him. But he faces the same kind of problems everyday. He's broke. He doesn't have a lot of money to feed his wife and kid. He's also homeless. He nearly gave up at first, but he worked so hard until he was selected to be a worker in one office. He cried after he was selected. He thought that he wouldn't get the job and he would be homeless forever. He believes in miracle. Soon as he got his job, he hugged his son and he thanked God for giving him the chance to build up his life back. If I were him, all I would do is to get back to square one. To begin with zero. From there, I will start to learn every basic skill in life. As what I had mentioned in Task 3 about the meaningful lyric of Nas. We will always get what we want to have as long as we keep it positive everytime. That being said we should also be grateful with what we have now in order to get more in the near future.

English For Specific Purpose - Task 3

Nas - I can
[Kids]
I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)
[Nas]
Be, B-Boys and girls, listen up
You can be anything in the world, in God we trust
An architect, doctor, maybe an actress
But nothing comes easy it takes much practice
Like, I met a woman who's becoming a star
She was very beautiful, leaving people in awe
Singing songs, Lina Horn, but the younger version
Hung with the wrong person
Got her strung on that
Heroin, cocaine, sniffin up drugs all in her nose...
Coulda died, so young, now looks ugly and old
No fun cause now when she reaches for hugs people hold they breath
Cause she smells of corrosion and death
Watch the company you keep and the crowd you bring
Cause they came to do drugs and you came to sing
So if you gonna be the best, I'ma tell you how,
Put your hands in the air, and take a vow
[Chorus - 2x (Nas and Kids)]
I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)
[Nas]
Be, B-Boys and girls, listen again
This is for grown looking girls who's only ten
The ones who watch videos and do what they see
As cute as can be, up in the club with fake ID
Careful, 'fore you meet a man with HIV
Whatever you decide, be careful, some men be
Rapists, so act your age, don't pretend to be
Older than you are, give yourself time to grow
You thinking he can give you wealth, but so
Young boys, you can use a lot of help, you know
You thinkin life's all about smokin weed and ice
You don't wanna be my age and can't read and write
Begging different women for a place to sleep at night
Smart boys turn to men and do whatever they wish
If you believe you can achieve, then say it like this
[Chorus]
[Nas]
Be, be, 'fore we came to this country
We were kings and queens, never porch monkeys
There was empires in Africa called Kush
Timbuktu, where every race came to get books
To learn from black teachers who taught Greeks and Romans
Asian Arabs and gave them gold when
Gold was converted to money it all changed
Money then became empowerment for Europeans
The Persian military invaded
They heard about the gold, the teachings, and everything sacred
Africa was almost robbed naked
Slavery was money, so they began making slave ships
Egypt was the place that Alexander the Great went
He was so shocked at the mountains with black faces
Shot up they nose to impose what basically
Still goes on today, you see?
If the truth is told, the youth can grow
Then learn to survive until they gain control
Nobody says you have to be gangstas, hoes
Read more learn more, change the globe
Ghetto children, do your thing
Hold your head up, little man, you're a king
Young Princess when you get your wedding ring
Your man is saying "She's my queen"
It's actually hard to pick a favourite song. For me, as long as it's a good song to be heard. It will always be my favourite. But for this time, I would pick ''Nas - I can'' as one of my favourite song of all time. A song that is meaningful and has values for the people who'll be hearing it. Why do I say it's meaningful? It's because this song relates everything in our life. Especially for those who're always being negative and say they can't do at something. We can do and we can have anything what we want to have as long as we're willing to work hard at it. As in the early first verse Nas says that ''You can be anything in the world,in God we trust,An architect, doctor, maybe an actress But nothing comes easy it takes much practice''. Regardless of whatever religion you practice, we believe that God will always help us and will always hear our prayers.

English For Specific Purpose - Task 2

On task 2, I have been asked to write down about my idol. Which it is hard for me to describe in that kind of way. To me,I have no idol. But I do look up to someone who always inspire me to live my life. One of them is KRS-ONE. He's a rap artist, philosopher, poet and a writer. All of his crafts are inspiring and I found him inspirational. To me,he's one of a great & talented rap artist who does rap music for the art of Hip Hop culture until the present time. He did a lecture in one university showing what Hip Hop culture is all about. He could be serious and funny at the same time when he's talking. That's why most of the people including me aren't bored listening to all of his stuffs.

English For Specific Purpose - Task 1

I had identified my problem in speaking english since I was in highschool. I have no problem writing it down but I have a lot of problem pronouncing the words clearly. This is because I seldom speak english with my friends. I used to speak english with my Dad. But since im currently away from him. I have no partner to speak this language. Im lacking in practice. But I realised that the technology has changed the way we live. The elders used to say that it was hard to communicate with the others in their early age before. We are now living with television, laptop & handphone yet we don't realise that we can use these things to improve the way we live. After I'd realised about this, I began to communicate through the ''chatroulette'' where you can interect with foreigners all over the country using webcam and mic. I do believe to master any language,it's all about practice. We should be grateful that we ain't living like the elders in their early age.

Bye - Bye 2011!

Salam/Peace be upon you.

Believe it or not we're now on 30 December 2011. Few more days to go and we'll be in the 1st month of 2012.
A lot of great memories that will be missed, & a lot of bad memories that will never be forgotten.
Such a great year 2011. I've been through a lot of things & I've learned to get through most of them as the experiences taught me along the way.
Life, yeah it's life. Friendship, yeah it's friendship. Girlfriend? maybe. Loyalty, yeah it's loyalty.
I enjoyed the last moment after graduating highschool in the early year of 2011. It was fun as I totally got that freedom to live & see every colour in life.
After seeing them all, then you will see the differences between ''true'' colour & a mixture of one another.
My old days went great & hoping the same thing would happen in future. God Willing.
Big shoutouts to my mum & dad, all of my friends that have made my day perfectly well & to those who're still supporting me,do keep it up!

UFS111 - 4th Reflection Topic

About this 4th reflection topic, it is very intresting. Thanks to Madam Aty for posting up the clip in the blog. I feel that the clip inspired me a lot. It is because of our life that we get along everyday. We have 2 legs and 2 hands to live a life and keep on doing our works & other things everyday but still there are some of us who give many excuses on doing the sort. I am not just advising all of you, but I am reminding myself about it as well. Sometimes we’re given this freedom and chances to live a life yet we tend to forget about it. I think life is beautiful when you know how to appreciate yourself of what you have and the people who’re supporting around you. Life ain’t that hard when you never give up on certain things you want to achieve. There are always some failures in life. It’s just how you handle them with a proper way and be sure to get back up once you’ve failed. Goodluck! All the best to all of you guys!

There is a lot of reasons why signs and banners should use correct English. We know that those signs and banners are actually for people around us. As a matter of fact, we’re using it too when we’re driving on the road. Sign for example, It usually directs us to a location where we want ourself to be. So using a correct English is very important. If these signs have a lot of error, how would tourists or other people can be directed to their destination? . Same goes to banner. Banner usually advertises about product, education and for other business purposes. So these banners should be well written in order to attract people’s attention.

UFS111 (Reading Vocabulary & Grammar 2) - 2nd Reflection Topic

I have never done an exploration before. But this topic is quite interesting to me. Why? It is because “exploration” can mean a lot of different things. We can explore anything and everything. People nowadays are busy doing explorations on something that had been done previously. However, it would also be great if someone could find something to explore more in depth or in detail. If I were given a chance to do an exploration,I would love to do a rare one such as ‘’Cultural Exploration’’ in our own country, Malaysia. With this kind of exploration, it might raise our community awareness that our multi cultural societies live in many different ways. I have heard stories that some people in West Malaysia once thought that our community in Sabah and Sarawak ‘’live on trees’’. This goes to show that they do not do any cultural exploration of their own country. Basically they don’t even know how different people of different cultures live and socialize. Besides, the cultural exploration is also a strategy to reduce racism in every country. Some wise men or philosophy once said ‘’you’ll get to love it once you’ve learned about it’’. So you see this might help to reduce the problem of racism rather than complicate matters. From this type of exploration too it gives us a lot of information on history based on each culture that we explored. We wouldn’t want to be such people who are lacking in history knowledge.

UFS111 (Reading Vocabulary & Grammar 2) - 1st Reflection Topic

During our English class this semester we were introduced to PDA which stands for Public Display Of Affection. Initially I didn’t know what the definition was, but after researching through the internet and asking questions among friends, it is clearer to me now what PDA is all about. Public Display Of Affection means showing of affection in full view of other people. Examples are holding hands, kissing and sexual intimacies in public places. We were told to give our own reflections and opinions regarding this topic. Some of us know that this kind of public display is seldom seen in our cultures and lifestyles. But some of us may have seen it before in certain places or maybe in certain film scenes. In my opinion, I don’t quite agree to Public Display Of Affection due to many reasons. However I am open minded. One of my reasons is that this kind of displays in public will affect others especially teenagers. Most teenagers nowadays are willing to try what they have seen in reality or on TV or cinema scenes. In such situation, this kind of displays give strong impact and influences towards the onlookers. Besides, we wouldn’t want to see our young generation these days getting involved in any illegal sexual relationship. Every religion teaches us to do good things. Non of these religions will agree or condone to extreme showing of Public Display Of Affection for example passionate kissing in public places. For those who’re married, showing ‘’love’’ or “affection” to one another is not a problem, but just make sure to keep it in private.

English Assignment 1.

Define ''LOVE'' in your own words :

What is "Love"? Most youngsters will always relate "Love" as something to do with boy-girl relationships and when they are romantically involved with each other then that is "Love". But for me, "Love" is more meaningful than that. "Love" is that "feeling of affection, fondness or attraction" not only towards humans but also to animals, objects, and our daily activities. Examples are: 'I love playing computer games all night long', 'Ahmad loves his cat', 'I love my mother very much'. So that being said, ''Love'' doesn't mean you're only referring it to a person. Instead we are using the word ''Love'' to describe other things/activities that we like to do or to have.
